Wanyama wants Old Firm nod

Victor Wanyama hopes he will be given the chance to prove himself in the forthcoming Old Firm match.

The Celtic midfielder was forced to watch on from the bench when his side went down 4-2 at Ibrox in September, but now he hopes his manager Neil Lennon will give him the green light to get involved.

It would be nice to play because I didn’t get off the bench last time. It’s the kind of game every player wants to play in,” he said.

“I think the fans have shown very good support to us and myself. They are always behind us and I am very happy to have fans like that.”

The Kenya international only arrived in Scotland during the summer and was still getting used to playing in the SPL when the first Old Firm game of the season took place and admits that his confidence was lower than it should have been when he first arrived. However, his strike against Hearts saw him open his account with Celtic and grabbed a vital win for the side and this has helped him feel more comfortable when it comes to the attacking side of his game.

Despite all the attention being on the potentially crucial Old Firm game on December 28th, both Glasgow clubs play on Christmas Eve and Celtic will need to ensure they beat Kilmarnock or their city rivals could be seven points ahead of them when the midweek fixtures take place.
