Brendan Rodgers Unsure of Staying at Celtic for Long
Brendan Rodgers refused to commit his long-term future with Celtic by saying that he does not know when he would leave the club.
The arrival of the northern Irishman has coincided with a brilliant spell at Celtic. The club has dropped only four points in the league so far this season. They have been able to break numerous records along the way. Celtic are now on an unbeaten run that stretches to 28 games in the domestic competition. Even though they have suffered the European exit, Celtic were not expected to make much of an impact especially considering that they were drawn in the same group containing the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City.
Rodgers came to the club after a disappointing end to his time at Liverpool. After coming extremely close to its winning the league title in his second season at the club, Rodgers failed to even qualify for the Champions League in his final campaign as he was sacked midway through the season. He has managed to transform the fortunes of Celtic in several ways.
Even though Celtic have been extremely focused on winning games, they have been able to do so while playing in an attractive manner. Rodgers is out of contract in the summer and there is speculation that he may look forward to returning to English football.
“My plan in my time here is just to do the very best that I can. Whether that’s for one year or another four or five years, I want to raise the standard here that hopefully pushes the club to the maximum. I’m on a one-year contract so you can’t predict a manager’s stay. You can’t say how long you are going to be there. You look at [Claudio] Ranieri. So for all you’d like to say this or that you can only promise that while you are here that you do the very best that you can,” said Rodgers.
