In the season before last, Celtic reached the knockout stages of the competition and they were ultimately sent out by Juventus. After the demise of Rangers, Celtic have been left as the sole big club in the Scottish Premier league. As a result, they have been experiencing little competition for the title. The Champions League represents the competition are Celtic need to excel in order to improve their profile.

Celtic‘s ambition of reaching the 100 point mark for the league campaign managed after the team lost a three-goal lead against St Johnstone during the weekend. The 3-3 draw means that Celtic will miss out on this magic tally. Lennon, whose future at the club has been speculated widely over the last few months, states that he wants money to spend in the summer so as to help the club reach the latter stages of the European competition. Lennon’s tactics has come under fire this season. Due to the lack of competition, many expect Celtic win the title much earlier than they have done in recent years.

"I think we do need to add depth to the squad for where I want to take the team. I don't want what happened last year. We basically sold the crown jewels in the space of three weeks. We'll try and avoid that if we can. I'd like to keep the core of the squad and add a few bits more. It's very difficult to do. Whether the money's there and we get the right type is another thing. We're working on it obviously, I still think we need another couple of positions strengthened," said the manager.
