Neil Lennon reveals James Forrest wants to sign another Celtic contract

Celtic head coach Neil Lennon has revealed that James Forrest is keen to see out the remaining of his career with the club. The Scotland international has been with the first-team squad for the past nine years and during this period, he has transformed into one of the club’s most consistent performers from the wider attacking position.

Speaking to reporters, Lennon said that Forrest remains committed to the club’s cause and he has no plans of parting ways with the team. He added that the 28-year-old would prefer to sign another long-term deal with the club despite having three years remaining on his existing deal, he said:“He wants to extend his contract which is great. Rather than talking about people leaving the club we’ve got one there who wants to stay. So that’s one we’ll look at. I think he’s still got two years left on his deal but we’ve already talked about an extension. Well, me and him have!”

Forrest struggled with injury concerns during the early part of his professional career but he has managed to curb the same as he has developed. Moreover, he has also improved on the goalscoring count and during the past two seasons, he has managed an equal tally of 17 goals across all competitions for the Hoops.

Celtic have dominated the proceedings in the Scottish top-flight and last season saw them secure the league title for the eighth campaign on the bounce. Unlike previous years, they had a minor hiccup at the start of the season but that did not hamper their title pursuit as they got their act together during the backend of the campaign.

Meanwhile, the club have already begun the 2019/2020 season owing to the Champions League qualification phase. The Hoops got the better of Sarajevo by a 3-1 score during the away leg of the first qualifying round and they now await the return leg next week.
