Celtic manager Neil Lennon has acknowledged that Arsenal may make a renewed approach to pursue the services of defender Kieran Tierney. The Scotland international has been earmarked as one of the club’s prime defensive targets for the summer but they have not been able to find the breakthrough with a couple of bids turned down by the Hoops.

Speaking in a press conference, Lennon said that it is normal for the Gunners to come up with another proposal, considering they have a few days before the transfer window closes in the Premier League. He added that Tierney remains an important player in the club’s ranks and he remains optimistic that the Scot will continue with the club for the forthcoming campaign.

Speaking to reporters, Lennon said that Forrest remains committed to the club’s cause and he has no plans of parting ways with the team. He added that the 28-year-old would prefer to sign another long-term deal with the club despite having three years remaining on his existing deal, he said:“He wants to extend his contract which is great. Rather than talking about people leaving the club we’ve got one there who wants to stay. So that’s one we’ll look at. I think he’s still got two years left on his deal but we’ve already talked about an extension. Well, me and him have!”

BBC Sport correspondent David Ornstein has revealed that Arsenal have failed with an opening bid to sign Celtic’s Kieran Tierney but remain optimistic of reaching a transfer agreement. The Gunners are keen to pursue a new left-sided defender this summer and Tierney has been earmarked as the prime choice to strengthen that position of the backline.

Writing on his official Twitter account, Ornstein confirmed that the Gunners have had £15m bid knocked back for the defender but they remain hopeful of sealing a transfer agreement with personal terms remaining a mere formality, he tweeted: “As reported elsewhere Arsenal have had an opening bid of £15m for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney rejected - but there is optimism an agreement will be reached between the clubs, while personal terms for the 22-year-old Scotland international shouldn’t be a problem.”

Former Scotland international Kris Boyd believes James Forrest has the time on his hands to take up a bigger challenge away from Celtic. The 27-year-old has undoubtedly been the best performer in the Scottish top-flight and he contributed 11 goals and nine assists in the club’s recent Premiership triumph.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, Boyd said that Forrest has achieved everything within reach in Scottish Football and he should now look into the prospect of pursuing a bigger challenge in the Premier League or elsewhere, he quipped: “He has probably achieved all he can achieve in Scottish football. It is similar to Scott Brown a number of years ago in terms of how good a player is Scott Brown. Can he go and play in the English Premier League? He has never done it. Could James Forrest do it? He is still young enough to go and try away from Celtic.”
