Ronny Deila says that former Manchester United captain Roy Keane will be a perfect match

Outgoing Celtic manager Ronny Deila says that former Manchester United captain Roy Keane will be a perfect match for the Scottish club.

Keane has been working as a pundit for last few years and he has not been in management since leaving Ipswich Town at the end of the 2011 season. Even though he has held roles as the assistant manager for the Republic of Ireland national team and Aston Villa, there have been doubts about Keane’s ability to come back strongly. So far, the Irishman has experienced only in his first campaign as manager with Sunderland.

After severe backlash from the supporters, Deila decided to step down from his role as the manager of Celtic by mutual consent. He has gone out on a high after winning the Scottish Premier league title, but the next manager will be best judged upon the success of the club at European level. As a player, Keane has experienced immense success at European level from his time at United. He also is quite knowledgeable about Celtic after having played for the Scottish outfit towards the end of his career. He finished his playing career in 2006 at Celtic Park. Only recently, he expressed his desire to return to management.

“He’s Irish, he has played at Celtic and he knows what the club’s about, so he could be good in the job. I think Roy would have things I didn’t have and maybe I have things he doesn’t have.He will handle the pressure. But it’s about what you want as a club and if you pick Roy Keane, then they will know what they are getting. I don’t know Roy, I just thought he was a fantastic player. I’ve spoken to him once, when I met him at an Everton game some months ago. I loved watching him play. He’s a strong character,” said Deila.
